Carlos grew up in New Mexico with family on both sides of the border. As a little boy he made repeated trips back and forth across the border with his mother, his aunts, and his siblings. He thought they were fun trips home to Mexico to see his grandparents. What he didn't know until he was older was that The Alvarez family was in the Mexican cartel drug running business. All those family trips hid drug pick ups. The money from the illegal activities were built into a respectable cattle ranching business. Carlos, when he was old enough to understand what was going on, hated what his family did. There was so much senseless violence against innocent people and he couldn't stand it. He fought with his father over it and spent as much time as he could on the ranch out tending to the cattle. Protecting the cattle from predators and cattle rustlers made him very good with a rifle, very good with horses and very good on his own.

At 18 he signed up for the Army to get away from his family and the business he was being pressured into. His father disowned him over it. He hasn't seen any of them since that day. His skill with a rifle got him noticed by the military brass and he was put into sniper training. He got the nickname Cougar for his ability to be still and wait in ambush for targets no mater how long it took. In his training he really excelled, enough that he was moved into special forces. His work there and a few impossible shots under heavy fire got him noticed by Clay. He joined the Losers as their designated sniper.

The Losers were known for pulling off impossible missions for the Army, the CIA and other allied organizations that needed a unit that was slightly insane but incredibly skilled. Cougar was loaned out to another group for a mission in Afganistan and on that mission he saw and experienced horror that made him stop talking almost completely.

When they were sent to the jungle to take out a South American drug lord Cougar didn't expect how it ended. They were framed by a man named Max who blew up the helicopter they were supposed to escape in killing a group of children they had tried to save. They were declared dead and left to rot in South America.

Cougar was more than willing to get revenge on Max and even after being betrayed by one of their own, he went along to stop the madman. They didn't succeed in killing Max and now he lives on the run trying to find him along with the other Losers.
